Solar FAQs
What are the benefits of solar power?
Want to lower your electricity bills, increase your energy independence and reduce your carbon emissions with solar? Now that’s a bright idea. Harnessing and using clean, renewable energy from the sun makes you less reliant on traditional sources of electricity like fossil fuels. Plus if you’re looking to lower your carbon emissions by using more of the energy your system generates, you can consider solar batteries as well.
How do I install a solar system with Origin?
We’ve partnered with the leader in the industry, SolarQuotes, to make sure our customers get access to the best quotes, installers, and experience when sorting solar panels, solar batteries, EV charging or heat pumps at their place. Just answer a few questions on the SolarQuotes form, and they’ll be in contact with your quotes. Choose what you’re happy with and schedule in the works.
Once you’re done, Origin will be here to maximise your investment with energy plans, innovative products and services, such as Origin Loop virtual power plant, plus more.
How do I sign up for a solar energy plan?
Want to get more value from your home solar system? Origin has a range of solar energy plans with great feed-in tariff rates. We can help you make sure you’re on the best solar energy plan for you.
Looking for a plan with different features and benefits? Great news – our standard retailer feed-in tariff can be paired with any electricity plan you choose. Explore our available solar and electricity plans now.
Feed-in tariffs differ from state-to-state and what you can earn back will depend on your rate, the energy plan you’re on and how much excess energy you’re feeding back.
What are the benefits of solar batteries?
When it comes to cleaner energy solutions, solar panels are just part of the story. Solar batteries capture and store unused energy generated by your solar system for you to use when the sun isn’t shining.
You can add solar batteries to an existing solar system or include them in your new solar installation. Better still, you can connect solar batteries to our Origin Loop virtual power plant to help relieve pressure on the grid at times of high demand.
What is Origin Loop?
In essence, Origin Loop is like a new energy grid, made up of a network of different sources and devices, like intelligent solar batteries, all connected and working together as one. It’s also known as our virtual power plant (VPP).
Origin Loop is part of a cleverer, cleaner and more efficient energy future for all. With a solar battery connected to Origin Loop, you can contribute your stored solar energy to the grid during times of peak demand and be rewarded with savings on your energy bills. Learn how our VPP technology works and see how it can benefit you.
Besides our virtual power plant, we also offer a range of energy demand management and household network solutions.
We use Controlled Load to manage demand and help the grid run smoothly and efficiently. By turning off high-energy use appliances during high-demand periods and shifting certain electricity loads to times of the day when there’s more energy available, we can take pressure off the grid, optimise the use of renewable energy and keep costs down.
Origin’s ambition is to drive the switch to electric vehicles through the transition of our own fleet and in delivering leading EV services for drivers, households and businesses. Learn more about our smart EV charging solutions and Origin 360 EV fleet management program.
Did Origin buy SolarQuotes?
That’s right, but there will be no change to the way SolarQuotes operates – it’ll remain as a separate business.
SolarQuotes was founded by Finn Peacock in Adelaide in 2009 and since that time, has connected over 800,000 Aussies with quotes for solar panels, solar batteries and EV chargers to help them on their way to energy independence. Finn and his team will continue to do this through their network of more than 600 installers, with no change to the way SolarQuotes recommends system sizes, products, and installers.
At Origin, we’ve shifted the way we provide solar solutions to our customers. Through the purchase of SolarQuotes, the nation’s largest network of solar panel and solar battery installers, we’ll be able to help more customers on their journey to home electrification.
